"She flavours her French and Spanish cantes with a mixture of Flamenco, Latino, Arab and Caribbean music, concocted by seasoned musicians." ~ Philippe Alarie (Voir, Ottawa)

TORONTO - THURSDAY, MAY 14, 2009 - Small World Music presents the soulful French-Canadian singer-songwriter JOANNA MOON who will be performing the breezy but passionate repertoire from her debut album VAGABUNDA at the Lula Lounge. Blending flamenco-Latino sounds with a distinct Quebec edge, it's perfect for summer weather! For more information, please visit www.smallworldmusic.com.

French-Canadian singer-songwriter and guitarist JOANNA MOON plumbs the depths of her soul on her fiery new album VAGABUNDA.

Rooted in folk and progressive rock music early on, Moon began to explore other styles and beats and became inspired by a wide range of Spanish flamenco and Cuban artists. Her current groove reflects that inspiration and influence, and the result is a spicy blend of flamenco-Latino and Caribbean flavours sung in Spanish, French and English.

With her rich, powerful and gut-wrenching vocals, Joanna expresses the passion in her roaming gypsy soul through the lyrical themes of love and longing, seclusion, joy, and tragedy. Forever creating and looking to new experiences, this "old soul" unmasks vulnerability and the anguish through her voice and melody, touches listeners to the very core.

Collaborators on this project --- including the unique and beautifully complimentary accordion of Jaro Czerwinec (Cowboy Junkies, Gordon Downie) and the poignant flamenco guitar of producer Nicolas Hernandez (Jesse Cook, Esmeralda Enrique) --- have all been instrumental in making this a satisfying and fruitful experience for Moon, opening many new doors, new sounds and new possibilities.

Although Vagabunda is her debut album, Joanna is not new to the scene. As well as giving highlight performances at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa, the Toronto Jazz Festival, La Fête de la Musique in Toronto and even a stint aboard the Arctic Sunrise (Greenpeace ship), during its tour across Canada, she was also nominated for Best Performance Award at the 2009 Gala des prix Trille Or, which recognizes artistic excellence of Franco-Ontarian artisans and promotes the development of the French-speaking music industry in Ontario.
